Which is the most effective management strategy?

Our research shows that the most effective strategy implemented at present at Cronulla Beach is the fences and walkways. Though the revegetation of the dunes and the seawalls are good strategies, the walkways and fences seem to work well at keeping the dunes protected.   The signs are also a good strategy and fines that are in place for trespassing in the protected areas.  We spent 3 hours at Cronualla beach on a busy Sunday afternoon, and noted that no council ranger patrolling the area and inforcing the rules. So the fines and laws in our option need to be monitored by rangers.

Areas closed off by fences have allowed revegetation programs whilst maintaining access to the beach via walkways. This makes use of this strategy protecting the dunes from further erosion or other damage to the environment by humans.  The effective strategies are all the ones that are permanent solutions - the revegetation is the main one here. It can last for an immeasurable period of time due to the continuous growth of plants and their natural cycle. This has lessen the issue of the sand dunes disappearing over time.  Signage has educated the public so that they are further able to understand the action plans and obtain an understanding for themselves and others regarding the matter of Cronulla Beach's issues and what needs to be done to solve or at least manage these issues so that the beach does not continue to disappear..

The seabee wall has solved the problem temporarily, but the problem at Elouera Beach has not disappeared in any shape or form. It is through this cooperation between councils that the coastal environment can be protected better, through a collective effort rather than individual attempts. By working as a large mass, it seems to be more effective in the management of coastal environments, as all councils have one goal - to sustain their respective coastal environments.

Local council has rehabilitated the dune system in an attempt to stabilise the sand dunes by:  Revegetated the sand dunes with native species so that the vegetation can successfully trap the sand and stabilise the dunes.
