Background Information

Cronulla Beach/Bate Bay

 

Cronulla Beach is located in Bate Bay and includes Wanda Beach, Elourea Beach, North and South Cronulla Beach, Blackwood Beach and Shelly Beach (north to south). Bate Bay is located south of the Kurnell Heads and it is 26 kilometres from the Sydney CBD.

 

The word “Cronulla” is derived from the Aboriginal word “kurranulla”, meaning 'place of pink seashells'.


 

Demographics

 

Statistics show from the ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics) from 2011 that Cronulla has approximately a residential population of 17,042. 49.9% (8,512) are male and 50.1% (8,530) are female. There are 144 people in Cronulla who classify themseleves as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The majority of people living in Cronulla are born in Australia (13,251/77.8%) or classify themselves being of English heritage (29.6%).

Through this, we collect primary and secondary data through a variety of techniques.  We further  process the data collected to make appropriate recommendations for our aim to be achieved. Our goal is not only coastal management, it is also keeping everyone in a community up to date with the issue ahead and demonstrate a sense of place and understanding for their concerns regarding environmental impacts in the local area.
